For those with slow, non-transformational experiences
Yes, transformation is impressive and so appealing!
We see countless stories of transformation for people who learnt new information, suddenly decided this is enough, they’ll do things differently from now on and never looked back, with their discovery of yoga, a new diet that worked for them, or a great multi-vitamin supplement, or a health practitioner who helped them and listened to them and managed to change their life. Changing one’s life! everybody’s dream, right?
I want to say, good for them! But what about those who feel stuck, don’t know how to prioritise self-care, held back by a past, perhaps trauma without mentioning those they dare not label that way, contradicting emotions, those who do one step forward, two steps on the side and one step back before doing two steps forward?? Sounds familiar? you’re not alone! Why nobody talks about our stories? They’re less flashy but not less interesting!
As you guessed it, I am not one of those persons who have transformed their health. I am complex, rebellious at time, full of habitual thinking and contradictory emotions, things make sense, then they don’t and I need to digest ideas of change. This is frustrating and why are we enduring so much suffering? Whatever your story, it is valid, never give up, always try and try again. You’ll get more performant with every little step that you know is in the right direction, supporting your health, your goals, your values. Look at what you have changed, look at where you were and where you are now. Nobody wants to be unhappy, unhealthy, stuck and depressed, if this has happened to you, there will always be circumstances, an environment, things you inherited. Some (self)compassion may be needed, or is lacking even, most of the time.
For many persons, it is not one single supplement or one diet or one lifestyle practice that is going to help, but most certainly 1) a combination of those, 2) professional advice, 3 ) a support network, 4) celebrating each little step taken towards the right direction, 5) a holistic approach, 6) lots of self-compassion and lots of courage!
You are a survivor, health is a journey, it is not the final destination!
